Lavona Fay Smith, 75, of Nacogdoches, TX formerly Baytown, was born in Baytown on July 9, 1931 to Felder Wheeler and Norma Fay Smith, a pioneer family from Cedar Bayou and passed away Sunday, January 7, 2007 at her home. “Fay” in French means “precious fairy”. She was such a precious and delicate sweet lady born of Irish stock who endured a lifetime of long illnesses due to complications from diabetes, without complaint. Her family considered her to be their hero for her example of courage during her illnesses. She was a member of Cedar Bayou United Methodist Church and the Cedar Bayou Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and attended Lon Morris Methodist College and graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelors of Art degree in English. As a youngster, she loved to take her little boat out and just enjoy the water. She loved her family and her cats and so enjoyed laughing and smiling and going to the park, where she would look up at the heavens and sing. Always fastidious about her makeup and how she looked, she always had to have her “face” on, which made her feel better.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Alexander Chapel at Cedar Bayou United Methodist Church with Rev. Tommy Lyles officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be John Bob Cody, Andrew Dalquist, Bootsie Nelson, Jimmy Epperson, William “Bill” Kelley, Charles Hodges, Malcolm “Chip” Holiday, and Russell Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles “Gary” Coward, Jimmy D. Burch, Dr. Joseph Davis, Dr. Ivan Spector, Dr. Chok Lee, Herbert Poyner, Gray Hall, Conrad Magouirk, Jay Luecke, and Timothy “Tim” Altman.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Stephen Holiday and brother, Tracy Felder Smith and is survived by her daughter, Alexandria Allison Holiday of Nacogdoches and son, Malcolm “Chip” Holiday of Houston.
Arrangements are under the direction of Navarre Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2444 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, TX, 77521, (281) 422-8111.
