Larry had a career in welding and pipefitting in the petrochemical industry for mechanical contractors such as US Contractors, Zachry, and lastly, Austin Industrial, when he retired in 2000.
He proudly served in the United States Army; and was a Firefighter for the city of Baytown from 1972-1979. He enjoyed woodworking, nature-especially feeding wild birds, fishing, and a general love for the outdoors. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his beloved family, especially with his wife of 53 years, Nan; daughter, Rachel; son, Matthew; and granddaughter, Allison. He was known for his quiet, calm spirit, and when faced with adversity he showed great tenacity to overcome it. He was a man of great faith. He wholeheartedly believed in his Saviour, Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John Wesley Winans and Christine Lee Ankrom Winans; and sister, Brenda Joy Hebert.
He is survived by his wife, Nan Rae Turner Winans, of Baytown, TX; daughter, Sarah Rachel Winans Musil and her husband Matt Musil, of New Caney, TX; son, Matthew Cain Winans, of Baytown,TX; granddaughter, Allison Nicole Gutierrez, of Pearland, TX; sister, Marion Borgese, of Gig Harbor, WA; brother, Doug Winans and his wife Irene Winans, of Crosby, TX; mother-in-law, Nan Kennerly Turner, of Baytown, TX; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
