She worked as a Senior Budget Analyst for MD Anderson Cancer Center. She loved being a mother and grandmother. She enjoyed coloring on PixelArt and challenging herself daily with Wordle. She enjoyed playing Yahtzee, Phase 10, Mexican Train and other games with her family. Watching news was another one of her favorite past times including starting each week with the CBS Sunday Morning Show. Another Sunday favorite was tuning in to watch her Texans. To relax, she could be found watching for hummingbirds, holding her beloved chihuahua, Holly, or watching her shows including her favorite soap, General Hospital. In her later years, she found a passion for flamingos and began a large collection.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Nickerson, and mother, Evelyn Nickerson, and her brother, James Nickerson.
She is survived by daughters, Alena Pierce and Brandy Hickey, and grandchildren, Avery Pierce, Emma Pierce, Madelyn Pierce and Andrew Pierce and son-in-law, Ricky Pierce. She is also survived by sisters, Sherry Hickey and Sandie Bode and brother, Les Nickerson, as well as an extended family of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A visitation for Joann will be held Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Earthman Baytown Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, TX 77521. Following the visitation will be a graveside service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Grand View Funeral Home & Cemetery, 8501 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena, TX 77505.
