Jimmy worked for the Railroad doing maintenance for Southern Pacific/ Union Pacific and also as a security guard for Galena Park ISD. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Baytown, Texas. Jimmy enjoyed Holidays and Birthdays with family, Playing Bingo with friends at Cypresswood Retirement, and he loved watching NASCAR!! He also loved watching football.
He was preceded in death by his father John Edward Simms, mother Dorothy May Simms, both sets of grandparents, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and his great dog Bear.
Jimmy is survived by brother, Bobby D. Simms and wife Betty, of Houston; nephews, Jonathan Simms and wife Jacqueline, Thomas Simms, and Tyler Simms; niece, Cassandra Simms, and their children Sailor, Sterling, Nixon and Jett; brother, caregiver and confidant Danny P. “Bevo” Simms and wife Carol of New Caney; his special coach and nephew, John Wayne Simms and wife Nelly; his beloved singer-niece, Shelby Lyn Ferrara and husband Aaron both families reside in Porter; what he lived for his very special great-nephews and great-nieces! John Wayne Simms Jr., Jacob Wesley Simms, Emily Grace Simms, and Nora May Ferrara.
His family would like to recognize his longtime friend Sheila Weaver of Blue Mound, Kansas and his great friends at Cypresswood Retirement.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 7, 2024 from 9-10 am, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1200 E Lobit Ave, Baytown, TX 77520, with the funeral service to begin at 10 am. Committal will follow at 12:30 pm, at Forest Park East Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598.
