Elizabeth Lee Gill was born on July 9, 1928, on a farm near Mount Vernon, Texas, to Walter Henry Lee and Catherine Mitchell Lee. Elizabeth attended County Line School, Mt. Pleasant High School (Valedictorian), and East Texas Baptist College in Marshall, where she met her future husband J.B. Gill. They were married in June 1949 and moved to Mont Belvieu to become teachers at Barbers Hill High School. They joined Mont Belvieu’s First Baptist Church and remained faithful members for the rest of their lives. Elizabeth’s struggle ended and she peacefully entered her eternal rest on September 9, 2022.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, J.B., and her precious granddaughter Madelen Gill. She is survived by her son, Lee Gill of Houston, daughter Ellen Conner and husband Leard Conner of Dayton, grandchildren Abby Conner Thomas and husband Jason Thomas of Katy, Andy Conner and wife Kelsey Conner of Dayton, Nicholas Gill and Matthew Gill of Houston, great-grandsons Tyler Oxley, James Thomas, Jesse Thomas, and Bradley Gill and great-granddaughters Molly Conner, Hannah Conner, and Charlotte Gill, step-granddaughters Kendall Conner Like and Emily Conner, and by foster-daughter Melissa Dyer.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her sister Lillian Dickerson and brother Richard Lee and is survived by her sister Joyce Slaten of Fort Worth and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
Elizabeth touched many lives through her faithful ministry as a teacher and leader at First Baptist Church of Mont Belvieu, and through her English and Speech classes at Barbers Hill High School. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved the study of genealogy, and authored many articles published in the Baytown Sun and Hometown Journey, as well as an autobiographical book, From County Line to Barbers Hill. Her love for the Lord and her church family, and her faithfulness, were apparent to all who knew her.
A visitation for Elizabeth will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and a funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Drive, Baytown, TX 77521. A committal service will occur at Cedarcrest Cemetery, 3010 Ferry Rd, Baytown, TX 77520. Nick Gill, Matt Gill, Tyler Oxley, Andy Conner, Jason Thomas, and Doug Morris will serve as pallbearers.
