Amy Linn O'Sullivan, 31, of Baytown passed away peacefully at her home on April 9, 2011 after suffering from a debilitating disease for several years. She was born on December 12, 1979. Amy was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. She had several bachelor degrees, including Behavioral Science and was a certified mediator. She also held a Master's Degree in Cross Cultural Studies with a concentration in Women's Studies and was the only University of Houston Clear Lake student inducted into ODK, a National Leadership Honor Society in 2002. While at U of H C L, she worked with a professor in the study of dolphins and contributed to research which was published.
Amy was passionately involved with the sanctity of all living beings including rescuing, fostering, and saving animals from euthanasia. She spent a number of years working with animal rescue organizations SNAP and BACCR. She also worked with autistic children and victims of domestic violence. One of her proudest achievements was working with TCADP to end the death penalty. She believed that all humans were of value and deserved the right of redemption. Amy was always fearless in facing the most difficult of social issues and sought countless resources to increase her knowledge and understanding. Her quest of knowledge never ceased even though she was confined to a bed.
Amy was preceded in death by grandfathers, Charles E. Barton, Closs O'Sullivan, and Juna Hill. Survivors are her parents, Mike and Barbara O'Sullivan and Carl and Lori Contella, all of Baytown; grandmothers, Lou Barton and Margaret Hill, both of Baytown and Barbara Cook of Granbury; brother, Robert O'Sullivan of Deer Park; sister and brother-in law, Holly and Stephen Takach of Baytown; nieces and nephews, Piper and Tyler O'Sullivan, Luke Jackson, Morgan and Rebecka Takach; special friends, Diona O'Sullivan and Melissa O'Sullivan; and many cousins, uncles, aunts, and numerous friends around the world.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 2:00 pm. at Navarre Funeral Home with Dr. Richard Kleiman officiating. Immediately following the service, a reception celebrating Amy's life will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3900 North Main, in Baytown, TX 77521. All of Amy's friends and family are invited to attend both.
