Allen Dunn was born May 26, 1937 in Henderson, Texas and passed away on April 23, 2024 in Baytown, Texas, where he had lived for many years. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, A G Dunn and Willie Mae Dunn, Allen’s wife of 62 years, Judy Moran Dunn and their daughter, Rommi Power, as well as Allen’s wife of 5 years, Norine Robins-Dunn. Also preceding him in death were his two brothers, James Dunn, and Lloyd Dunn.
Allen is survived by his son, Randy G. Dunn and his wife, Robin Dunn, and by Norine’s daughters Becky Robins and Karen Robins, Norine’s son Robbie Robins and his wife Karen, Allen’s sister-in-law, Beverly Dunn, and his sister Lillian Pearly, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Dunn graduated from Baytown Lee High School in 1955, and from Southwestern Business School, and he also attended the University of Houston. During his long career in drafting and electrical, chemical, and instrument design, the companies that he worked for included Wilson Electric, Dow Chemical, Exxon, Upjohn Chemical, Blount, and KBR-Halliburton.
He had attended Sjolander Road Fellowship Church and Memorial Baptist Church. He loved watching all sports, especially football games played by the Baytown Lee HS Ganders, the Houston Texans, and the University of Houston Cougars. Allen also enjoyed attending his high school reunions for many years, including many informal get-togethers with friends from high school that he had always remained close to.
Allen was also a proud supporter of the arts, especially various music concerts and theater productions, and he enjoyed attending many performances at the Baytown Performing Arts Center at Lee College.
Allen was a strong supporter of the band program at Baytown Lee High School that both of his children had participated in, and he had loved attending his children’s school band concerts. And when his son, Randy, was a young high school student, Allen happily drove Randy and his friends (and sometimes Rommi too) to concerts in Houston so that the kids could all hear some of their favorite jazz and rock musicians perform live, since music was such a big part of their lives. Sitting through all of that loud jazz and rock music likely made Allen lose a lot of his hearing, but that was also an important part of one of the many things that made him such a great father. Randy and his friends still have wonderful memories of those great times, and they will always remember Allen with great fondness and appreciation of his love and the sacrifices he made for them.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 am, Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Navarre Funeral Home Chapel, 2444 Rollingbrook Drive, Baytown, TX 77521, followed by a memorial service to begin at 11:00 AM.
