Wilda Givens Owens

She died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday morning, March 11, 2014, at St. Joseph's Carpenter House Hospice. She was 97. Born in Franklinton, she was a Baton Rouge resident. She was a homemaker and a devoted mother until her passing. Wilda was an accomplished painter of beautiful Louisiana landscapes and colorful still lifes of flowers and fruit. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Wednesday and from noon Thursday at Green Oaks Memorial Funeral Home. The service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014, in the funeral home. Interment will be at Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge. Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin H. Owens; parents, Exie and Walter Givens; sisters Rubye Givens Corkern and Dixie Givens Hedden; son, James Marvin Owens; brothers Ray, Stanley and Robert Givens; and granddaughter Kelli Mixon Williams. Survivors include daughter Carolyn Sue and daughter-in-law Dorothy Owens; sons Ronald Wayne and Gary Dale and wife Judy; 5 grandchildren, Cindy Mixon (husband Kenny), Holly Mixon Bonner (significant other Larry), Keri Owens Blouin (husband Ned), Jonathan Owens and Bradford Owens; and 7 great-grandchildren, Wynter, Trinity, Michael, Elijah, Ann Elise, Derrick, Dylan; and 5 great-great-grandchildren, Sophie, Rhett, Mary Dot, Madison and Mallory. There will be 6 pallbearers: Jonathan Owens, Kenny Barry, Ned Blouin, Bradford Owens, Larry Benoit and Michael Bonner. Derrick Brecheen will be honorary pallbearer.
