Virginia Ellen Stephens Lynn, or Ginger as most knew her, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 17, at age 63, at her daughter’s home in Baton Rouge, after a courageous 11-month battle with cancer. A graveside service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 21, at Springville Cemetery in Coushatta, LA. The Reverend Mimi McDowell will officiate. Ginger was born on November 17, 1957, in Vicksburg, MS, and grew up in Coushatta, LA. She graduated from LSU earning a BS degree in Fashion Merchandising, where she was a member of the Phi Gamma Chapter of Chi Omega Sorority. Throughout her 35 years in Shreveport, she was an active member of several local organizations, including The Cotillion Club, Junior League of Shreveport, American Association of Professional Landmen, Daughters of the American Revolution, LSU Alumni Association, and Chi Omega Alumnae Association. She was a former member of the Demoiselle Club and Plantation Club. Ginger was preceded in death by her husband, John Douglas Lynn, and her father, Judge John Silver Stephens. She is survived by her son, John Douglas Lynn, Jr. and his fiancé Margaret Baird; her daughter, Mary Virginia Middleton, and husband, Ross Joseph Middleton; her grandson, Luke Silver Middleton; her granddaughter Virginia Claire Middleton. Her mother Virginia Wilkerson Stephens; her sister Melanie Stephens Rogers; her niece, Lauren Wilkerson Rogers; and her nephew Stephens Robert Rogers and wife, Becca. The family would like to thank Dr. Tyler Lash, the staff at Willis Knighton Health System, Houston Methodist Hospital, and The Hospice of Baton Rouge, for their care and compassion.
