Thomas “Tommy” Gary Walsh, passed away with his loving family by his side on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at the age of 73. Tommy graduated in 1968 from Robert E. Lee High School. After graduating from high school Thomas began his 50 year career journey in Law Enforcement with the Baton Rouge Police Department from 1973 to 2007 retiring as Captain of the traffic division at the age of 52. After retiring as Captain, Tommy served 5 years with the U.S. Marshall Service from 2002 to 2007. He then went on to work for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s office for the next 15 years, followed by Traffic on Motors from 2007 to 2011. In 2011 Tommy went to work for the Judicial Division from 2011 to 2022 until the age of 72. During his active Career in Law Enforcement Tommy also became a Civil War Reenactor in 1967 for over 30 years landing himself in 4 Civil War Movies; “ Louisiana”, “Gettysburg”, “North & South” and “Book 1 & Book 2”. In his spare time he loved to listen to classic country music, country dancing, golfing and fishing. In his earlier years he played on many baseball and flag football teams.
Tommy is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years Dorothy “Dottie” Walsh and his only daughter, Jennifer Lynn Walsh. He was the Brother of Helen Walsh Szekely. Brother in- law of Floyd A. DeMars (Sandra), Uncle of Diana Szekely Patin (Chris) and Laszlo Thomas Szekely (Angie). Great uncle of Megan Abshire, Hannah Patin, Kayelyn Sackett Szekely, Madison Szekely, Ella Aucoin, Emerson Aucoin, Kade Patin, Gerald DeMars, Keith DeMars, ML DeMars and Tony DeMars.
Tommy preceded in death by his parents John Thomas Walsh and Della LeBlanc Walsh, his baby sister Judith Walsh, Brother In-law Laszio G. Szekely, Sister In-law Sondra DeMars and his In-laws, Floyd A. Sr. and Ethel S. DeMars.
Pallbearers will be Corey DeVille, Kade Patin, Chris Patin, Tommy Szekely, Keith DeMars, Clifton Brown, Gerald DeMars and Jeff LeDuff. Honorary Pallbearers will be Barney DeVille, Floyd DeMars and Wayne Crosby.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815 on Friday, June 21st 2024 at 12:00 pm. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, June 20th from 5pm until 9pm and again Friday morning from 9am until service time. Burial will immediately follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
