Sharon Ann Hidalgo Ballard of Baton Rouge, Louisiana became a citizen of God’s glorious kingdom on April 15, 2024. She was born on August 22,1952 to the late Kenneth and Helen (George) Hidalgo in Champaign, Illinois.
Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Kernan Bernell Ballard, Jr. of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two children, daughter, Kristy Ballard Thomassie of Baton Rouge, LA, her husband Michael Thomassie, and step-grandson, Gabriel Thomassie; and son, Blaise Shaun Ballard, his fiancée, Annie Aiken, and grandson Chase Levi Ballard, of Bristol, TN; brother Larry Anthony Hidalgo, his wife, Sandy Sartin Hidalgo, and sister’s-law, Brenda Ballard Camp and Debbie Ballard Vidrine, along with adored nieces, nephews, and many, many cousins.
When her children were in school, Sharon was an active parent, serving in roles such as home room mother and PTA president. She loved riding in boats and on motorcycles. She became proficient in cake decorating and ceramics. She loved remodeling and redecorating the rooms in her home.
Once her children were older, Sharon enjoyed a productive career as an optometrist assistant and later medical clinic aid, before retiring to enjoy time with family and church friends.
Sharon was a do-er. If you wanted something done everyone knew Sharon would help take care of it! She helped others in need, in ways such as caring for the ill, providing childcare, or assisting people in personal crisis. She helped to make lives easier for others. She had a gentle heart and was happiest when helping family and friends.
Sharon loved the Lord and attended Greenwell Springs Baptist Church. She had active roles in her church serving on various committees, including sewing burial garments for miscarried or stillborn babies. After natural disasters in the community, she volunteered with different churches to help disaster survivors.
Sharon was also blessed with a green thumb and always knew the tricks for growing tomatoes and cucumbers or how to maintain flowers. When life slowed down, she kept busy with books and puzzles.
