Born in Chicago on Oct. 22, 1928, and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 1 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 81 and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. Robert graduated from Ripon College in Ripon, Wis., where he was the recipient of the Wall Street Journal Award, then received his MBA and doctorate in business administration from Indiana University. He was the LSU Professor of Insurance for more than 25 years and held the Pan American Life Insurance Chair of Insurance at LSU. After his retirement from LSU, he was the owner of Felton Associates, an insurance consulting firm. He was a Chartered Life Underwriter and a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, taught CPCU and CLU classes for local agents for many years through LSU and was the chairman of the research committee of the national CPCU organization. Robert served as past assistant editor of the Journal of Risk&Insurance, past board member and secretary for the International Society of Risk Management Consultants and past president of the Baton Rouge Business and Estate Planning Council. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and Rotary Club of Baton Rouge and a volunteer for Cancer Services and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Andrews Felton, on April 6, 2010; and his parents, Henry Dunbar Felton and Lucy Stayton Felton. He is survived by his children, Judy Felton Jones, of Houston, Patty Felton Guttery and husband Randy, of Highland Village, Texas, and Thomas Stayton Felton and wife Amy, of St. Louis; his grandchildren, Chris Jones and his wife, Alison, Laura Jones Ryan and her husband, Michael, Liz Jones, Austin Guttery, Katherine Guttery, Bennett Felton and Brett Felton; brother, Paul Dunbar Felton and his wife, Mary, of Sugar Land, Texas; nephews, Greg Felton and John Felton; and nieces, Cathy Ford, Christine Felton and Ann Felton. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, Oct. 14, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume at St. Luke's Episcopal Church Pope Hall on Friday from noon until memorial service in the church sanctuary at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev.
