On Friday, September 9, 2022, Nancy Crossland Moon, a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Baton Rouge at age 75. “Honey”, as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren, was born on February 26, 1945, to Darline Hazel and Conway Crossland in Little Rock, Arkansas. Nancy grew up in Monroe, Louisiana on Bayou DeSaird where she was elected Miss Neville High School her senior year. In 1963 she attended LSU in Baton Rouge where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Nancy earned a B.S. in Secondary Education form LSU in 1967, a M.A. in Education from LSU in 1986, and a Ph.D. specializing in reading from LSU in 1991. In addition to teaching in the education system, Nancy taught Bible studies as well. She was a teaching assistant in Community Bible Study in both New Canaan, CT and Jacksonville, FL CBS chapters. Nancy loved spending time with family and friends and being on the water, as she had such fond memories of her summers on Bayou DeSaird. She also enjoyed cooking, decorating, collecting fine antiques, and especially entertaining.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Wanda Darline Hazel and Conway Elmer Crossland.
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Nelson Moon Jr. of Baton Rouge; sister Mary Beth Crossland Clay of Monroe; son Charles Stovall Weems IV and wife Kerri of Jacksonville, FL; daughter Conway Weems Pettit and husband Robert of Baton Rouge; and 7 beautiful grandchildren: Kaylan Weems, Stovall Weems, Annabelle Weems, Bobby Pettit, Crossland Pettit, Lucy Jane Pettit, and Charlie Pettit. Nancy is also survived by three stepchildren: Ryan Moon of Cummings, GA, Sheryl Moon of New Orleans, and Kristin Moon Bienvenu of Prairieville.
Nancy’s life will be celebrated at a private family service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, Autism Research Institute, or Stovall Weems Ministries.
