On the 31st of October, at 8:58pm, our Michael Elliott LeBlanc breathed his last, marking the end of a 16–month battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He was surrounded by his family as he was taken by this awful disease. Michael’s life was shorter than we hoped, but each day was both known and numbered by the Lord; each breath was gifted and ordained by our Sovereign God.
Michael’s cancer was congenital (from birth) and we are told that he was the youngest admitted patient in St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s history. He endured an inability to breathe, sedation, intubation, round upon round of chemotherapy, bone marrow biopsies, bone marrow STEM cell transplant, surgeries, Pet Scans, CT scans, IV placements, oral drugs, central lines, IV drugs, involuntary fasting, rare bacterial infections, hurts and pains, pokes and prods, and all with a quick return to contentment, smiles, laughter, and play. He endured so many troubles with so much joy.
Michael’s life was short but powerfully used by God to bring Himself glory. His endurance and the Lord’s grace showing through him impacted so many people. Michael was loved by friends near and far, known and unknown. He was quick to smile and a fighter until the end. Michael was kind and compassionate; a sweet and beautiful baby, and he is already and will continue to be dearly missed.
Sophia and I, along with his older brother, Steven, his medical teams, his church family, friends, and his biological family were entrusted with Michael’s care by our Heavenly Father through his short 16–month life. We will now, in turn, entrust our Heavenly Father with his care in his death. We lean on the reminder from Genesis 18 which says, “Will not the Judge of the earth do what is right?”
We and so many others have been forever changed by the gift of Michael Elliott LeBlanc. We are thankful for Michael’s life and his death, knowing that both were from God—“the Lord gives and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord” (Job 1:21b). We pray that his memory will continue to impact this world for the cause of Christ until we see Him face to face.
A visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, on Friday, November 3, 2023 from 1 pm until 2 pm. Michael will be laid to rest in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
