Michael Edward Schouest passed away on his 82 birthday, July 11, 2022. A loving son, husband, father, and Grandfather, he was born on July 11, 1940, to Edwigh J. Schouest and Frances Gros Schouest. He was a native of Harvey, Louisiana, and a graduate of Holy Cross High School, attended Tulane on an academic/football scholarship. He was a graduate of LSU earning Electrical Engineering and MBA degrees. Mike worked for Conoco Oil in Oklahoma as a recruiter and taught at OSU. He eventually returned to Louisiana to become director of the LSU computing center, then Director of Computing for Louisiana Dept of Education. He was the president of and on the boards of many national educational data system organizations. Mike retired from the state of Louisiana DNR and became an expert shopper. Mike never met a stranger and always was genuine in his warmth. He was a man of faith, a strong Catholic. Some of his friends often called him Father Mike, because of his desire for all to find God. He served as Captain of Manresa Torchbearers and was bestowed the title of Captain Emeritus of Manresa Retreat #9. He faithfully attended retreats for over 30 years, until health prevented his attendance. Over the years, he was a member of several Catholic prayer organizations. Mike was a very active member of many LSU retiree groups, including faculty and staff retirees. Mike was a strong supporter of LSU Alumni and was an avid football fan. He often said that Mike the tiger was his namesake. He loved his Tigers (all sports) and Saints football. He lit up the room with his electric smile and genuine warmth. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Diana Fife Schouest, two sons in Atlanta, Michael Paul (Lori Lewis), Aaron Edward (Lise Tousignant) and 5 grandchildren: Charlie, M. Bryant, Suzanne, Oliver and Lydia. He is also survived by brother in law and sister in laws, Bob and Barbara Fife, Mary Anne Fife, Gloria (Al) Schouest Yantis, and nephews, Brian (DeAnn) Fife, Brad (Julie) Fife, Shane (Heather) Schouest, and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Gary J. Schouest. We thank his caregivers Fadila Bilalovic, Moore Care, Tammi Nicholas and Audubon Hospice. Services will be conducted at St. Jude Catholic Church, Baton Rouge, LA, by Rev. Jon Koehler on Monday July 18 at three o’clock with visitation beginning at 1:00.
