A friend to even the most burdened souls, Matthew Scott Littlefield had a big heart and a gentle soul. He passed away January 5, 2023 at 30-years-old.
Matthew was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Gary and Debra Littlefield on August 27, 1992. He attended St. Thomas More Elementary School and was an honor student at Catholic High School where he served on the yearbook staff and was a member of the photography club. And while he did not attend, Matthew earned a full scholarship to Louisiana Tech.
From an early age, Matthew was a voracious reader and a natural outdoorsman. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed hunting and shooting clays with his father. Additionally, Matthew shared his father’s passion for golf and many treasured memories were made on the range.
In his young adult life, Matthew spent months hiking and braving the elements during a Utah winter. He also spent time in Maine where he volunteered at a refuge for wolves. A homage to his deep love of animals, including his beloved cat Noodle and his dog Velvet.
Matthew lived the last several years in Austin, Texas where he often worked as a photographer and had photos published in Austin Woman Magazine.
When Matthew found focus, he excelled at anything he wanted to do and his intelligence shined like the blue of his eyes. His friends describe him as selfless and kind. While he struggled to conquer his own disease, Matthew aided many others on their path to recovery by leading meetings and lending an ear or helping hand whenever needed.
It would be a disservice not to offer special thanks to the many people who went above and beyond to help Matthew achieve his goals and work towards a brighter future. Thank you to Dr. Judy Armstrong, Dr. Greg Brandao and Dr. Kelly Runnels who all ensured Matthew received his high school diploma. Thank you to Dr. Robert Blanche for your commitment to helping him fight his disease until the very end. And finally, thank you to the entire recovery community in Austin who supported Matthew in his darkest moments and never stopped trying to help.
Matthew is survived by his father Gary Scott Littlefield and his mother Debra Roussel Littlefield. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Linda Roussel Upton and husband J. Charles Upton, Pam Roussel Fry, Ray Littlefield and wife, Debbie; Martha Littlefield and husband Joel Goldman, and Damon Littlefield and his wife, Leslie as well as cousins Eddie Littlefield, Chase Chabaud, Mason Littlefield Copeland and Mark Fry. Preceding him in death are his beloved brother, Andrew Littlefield, his uncle, Ernie Littlefield, and grandparents, Ed and Leona Littlefield and Bert and Margie Roussel.
