A native of Alexandria, she died of cancer at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at her home in Baton Rouge. Visitation at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 12:30 p.m. until the funeral Mass at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Mike Maroney. Winkie was a vice president of Burns and Co. Inc./Realtors, serving as the manager of the Highland Road office. Winkie was a graduate of Holy Savior Menard High School, Northwestern State University and Louisiana Realtors Leadership. She held professional designations of Graduate Realtor Institute, Certified Real Estate Broker and Accredited Buyer Representative and State License Appraiser. She served as a director of The Greater Baton Rouge Association of Realtors and Louisiana Realtors. Winkie was a lover of the visual and performing arts and founded "Art for Food," an annual event that benefits the Summer Children's Program of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. Winkie also served on the East Baton Rouge Parish Alcohol Beverage Control Board and was an active volunteer at Our Lady of Mercy School and other various activities. She is survived by her husband, Alfred E. "Trey" Berlin III; three sons, Alfred E. "Bubba" Berlin IV and his wife, Melanie, Michael L. Berlin and his wife, Anne, and Brian Berlin; granddaughters, Perry Berlin and Molly Berlin; sisters, Patricia DeKeyzer, Theresa Everett, Cecelia Dewitt, Christy DeKeyzer; brothers, Dan and Peter DeKeyzer; and devoted friends, Tanna Traylor and Mathilde Frost. She was predeceased by her parents, Harold L. and Evelyn DeKeyzer; and brother, Richard DeKeyzer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, 5546 Choctaw Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70805.
