Marie "Nan" Chustz

Marie Hortense Picard Chustz, known as "Nan" to many, entered into heavenly rest on Monday, March 14, 2011. A native of Pointe Coupee Parish, she was born June 12, 1917, and graduated from Poydras High School, where she was a member of the girls basketball team. After her marriage to Harris J. Chustz in 1939, they lived in Baton Rouge for the remainder of their years. They were longtime members of the Baton Rouge Country Club, where she enjoyed Ladies Day Golf and many New Year's Eve dances with family and friends. A resident of Broadmoor for 50 years, she enjoyed her flower-filled yard in the summer, watching cardinals outside her window, shopping and driving her yellow Cadillac. Along with her husband, Nan was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Felicine Picard; brothers, Amelcar Picard, Marcie Picard and Wilmer Picard; and sister, Adele P. Pinsonat. Survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Sidney Allison, of Baton Rouge; son and daughter-in-law, Harris J. "Bubba" and Leta Chustz, of Columbia Falls, Mont.; grandchildren and their spouses, Cathy and Rob Gough, Cyndi and Barry Breau and Nancy and Tyler Norwood; great-grandchildren, Loren and Kody Gough, Michael Sonnier, Brandon and Hallie Breau; and nieces, Bonnie Braud and Sybil Boudreaux. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Williamsburg Retirement Community where she formerly resided for six years and Ollie Steele Burden Manor for the excellent care they provided for the past two years. We will be forever grateful for the wonderful sitters, "her girls," who have provided our mother with loving care these last 8‰ years, for she would not have lived this long without their expertise and devotion. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 16, from 1 p.m. until religious service at 2:30 p.m. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
