Maggie came from a long line of published authors: Grace graduated from Newcomb, received an MBA from Tulane University and wrote for the New Orleans States Item and the Times Picayune. Her aunt Fannie Heaslip Lea published many popular fiction novels.
She graduated from Lamar High School in Houston and received a Bachelor of Arts from University of Houston in 1949. She taught elementary school in Houston and at Delacroix Island, then later at St Paul’s Episcopal Church.
She married Joseph Gerard (Gerry) Waguespack (deceased in 1989) and together they built Bonita Boat Company in New Orleans, where they built custom wooden boats by hand. Together they spearheaded finfish conservation legislation and created a wonderful family, survived by 5 children and their spouses: Barbara (Babs) Arny Waguespack and Dan Paganini, Janice (Jan) Lea Lirette Waguespack and devoted caregiver Tommy Milazzo, Kathleen Waguespack Judge and Michael Judge, Lawrence (Larry) Joseph Gerard Waguespack Jr. and Marisan Waguespack, and Timothy Edwin and Lynn Waguespack. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Timothy (TJ) Edwin Waguespack Jr, Taylor Waguespack Evola, Shane Judge and Ryan Judge. She has 5 great-grandchildren: Colin and Ethan Judge, Kathleen and Matthew Judge and Giavanna Sophia Evola.
She loved to read, puzzle and garden and she will be missed by many friends and Pokeno clubs.
A memorial gathering will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, on Friday, April 21, 2023 from 1 pm until memorial service at 3 pm.
