Lurline A. Calmes, 90, a native of White Castle and a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2012. A wonderful wife, devoted mother and loving grandmother, Lurline was a woman of beauty in her appearance but more importantly in personality. A woman of elegance who volunteered for her church, the Food Pantry, and Clothes Closet, Lurline was never happier than with her family or welcoming someone into her home to share a meal. She considered everyone family and never spoke unkindly of anyone. She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens and traveling with her husband. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Levy Chaney Calmes; children: Arlene Achord and husband Steve, Sue Lynn Allen, and Charlene Templet and husband David; grandchildren: Chris Hill, Tabitha Cain, Chad Jones, Tammy Leonard, Tonya Jenkins, Mechelle Barbay, David Templet, Jr. and Jacob Lilly; 15 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; siblings: Delta Matherne, Isabella Forsytat and Rezette Jenkins; and good friend, Eugene McGehee. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Elizabeth Alleman; daughter, Bobbie Lee Hill-Watts and siblings: Gertrude Stein-Gros, Carmen Alleman, Hazel Callegan and Natalie Bourgeois. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and continuing on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Lurline will be missed even though she is with God looking down and smiling on each and every one of us.
