"Leo Joseph Heuvel passed away on August 18, 2016 after a short stay at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center. He was 87 years old. He was a native of Carville, LA and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge. He was a retiree of Uniroyal. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the US Army. Leo was a devoted Husband and Father and especially enjoyed being Pawpaw to his grandchildren. He is well known for his cooking skills, especially his often requested oatmeal cookies. He enjoyed working in his shop making picture frames and working on engines of all types. He was regularly taking care of his lawn and garden. Along with Adele, he was a regular volunteer at Our Lady of Mercy. He was a member of the Holy Name Society. Leo is survived by his wife of 62 years, Adele LeBlanc Heuvel; son, David Heuvel (Ginger) of Watson, LA, and daughter Gretchen Macaluso (Wayne) of Baton Rouge, LA; four grandchildren, Aaron Heuvel (Julie), Zachary Heuvel, Emily Macaluso, and Daniel Macaluso; and one great-grandson, Abe Heuvel; brother, Joseph Heuvel (Dee) of Baton Rouge; and sister, Mary Harbourt (Cyrus Oscar) of Columbia, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Heuvel and Johanna Schuurmans; brother, John (Johnny) Heuvel; and sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Levasseur. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home Downtown, 825 Government St in Baton Rouge, on Monday, August 22, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. Rosary will be held at approximately 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, August 23 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave Baton Rouge, LA, from 9:00 a.m. until a Funeral Mass at 10:00. Entombment will be at the family mausoleum at St Gabriel Catholic Church Cemetery in St. Gabriel. The family is thankful to the Trauma Team and staff of Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center that cared for Leo and supported the family during a trying time. Special thanks to our very supportive neighbors, Johnny and Barbara Murray and Lowry B. Griffon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Traditions for Tomorrow.
