Lena Montagnino Martello, a resident of Baton Rouge passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Hospice of Baton Rouge Butterfly Wing. She was born October 26, 1920 to Sam and Conjetta Pizzillio Montagnino. No one believed her age, the picture above was taken August 2018. She was an Istrouma High School graduate. She was a very kind and generous person. Aunt Lena was a wonderful cook showing her love through food and always had an “open door policy”. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years Pete J. Martello; her parents; brothers, Angelo, Joseph and Leon Montagnino; sisters, Rosie Horne, Dora Wilson and Mary Morgan. She is survived by her sister Laura Zito. Although Aunt Lena did not have any children of her own, she was the beloved aunt to four generations of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, on Monday, October 8, 2018 from 10:00am until funeral service time of 12:00pm. Interment will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the wonderful staff of the Hospice of Baton Rouge and the Butterfly Wing; Dr. Herschel Dean for over 35 years of excellent care; Dr. Terry Zellmer; and her caregivers, Torina Moore and Marie Smith.
