Joyce Wales Burkeen, a resident of Baton Rouge LA., passed away on December 18, 2024, at the age of 82. Mrs. Burkeen was born in New Orleans, LA. On July 17, 1942, to parents Willie and Vercie Wales. Joyce enjoyed studying the Bible, singing and music, teaching Sunday School and antiquing. She was a registered nurse and a member of Istrouma Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, James Burkeen; son, Joshua Burkeen; daughter, Jennifer Burkeen; granddaughters, Kinsley Burkeen and sisters-in-laws, Gwynne Wales and Kathy Wales.
Preceded in death, parents, Willie E. and Vercie Strancer Wales; brother, Robert E. Wales and Charles Erest Wales.
Pallbearers will be, Tom Webb, Cecil Rushing, Aubrey Brignac, Keith Ichmeder, Gene Shelburne, and Jim Wyble. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA., Monday, December 23, 2024, from 12:00pm until service time of 2:00pm. Interment will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
