Joseph B. Guillory, a native of Mamou, LA, and resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on January 20, 2021 at his home in Baton Rouge at the age of 85, 1 day before his 86th birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ezra and Agnes Fontenot Guillory, and half-brother, J.D. Guillory. He was raised on a small family farm where Cajun French was his first language, and he often spoke the language throughout his life. He is survived by his wife, June H. Guillory with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage, and children Jeff, John (Christie), and Jill; 2 grandchildren, Paige Guillory Pettus (Andrew) and Katie Guillory. Joe was a 1952 graduate of Vidrine High School where he lettered in boxing. He was an Army Veteran who served in the military in Germany after WWII in what was known as the Cold War. He was a graduate of LSU and briefly attended LSU Law School. He was president of the B.R. Jaycees from 1967-1968. He was a steamship agent in Baton Rouge for Buchholz & Kuttreff of New Orleans and then was employed by Ethyl/Albemarle as an International Business Supervisor. He retired from Ethyl/Albemarle in 1994. He was also president of the Ethyl Management Club, enjoyed membership as an LSU Alumni and was an usher for many years at Trinity Episcopal Church. During his lifetime he enjoyed raising hereford cattle and other animals. He and his wife owned the last remaining cattle farm on Highland Road. Previous to that, he and his wife built a short order restaurant on Winbourne Avenue called Papa Joe’s. Later they developed a small strip shopping center nearby. His 2 prized possessions were his golf cart and his red mustang. He loved playing golf with a group of former Ethyl/Albemarle employees and enjoyed the Supper Club group with the men and their wives. For over 50 years Joe was an avid LSU fan and enjoyed tailgating and attending both home and away games. In 2008 he became stricken with chronic leukemia, and by 2015 he and his wife decided to downsize and move from their 12 acre farm on the corner of Highland Road and Fulwar Skipwith Road to Village Woods Community. Before moving, they developed their cattle farm into a small subdivision. After moving into Village Woods, he was quickly voted onto the Board of Directors. He was a loving father and grandfather who loved spending time with his granddaughters riding in the golf cart around the cattle farm. Pallbearers are Jimmy Brady, Claude Catania, Dwayne Fontenot, Curtis Jones, Laddie McVicker, and Andrew Pettus. Honorary pallbearers are Van Bush, Charles Mury, Tom Nickens, and members of the Village Woods Men’s Thursday coffee group. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation which will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home on 825 Government Street in Baton Rouge on Monday, January 25, 2021 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 am. Burial will follow in the Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary, Louisiana. Due to Covid-19, the family has requested that anyone who attends please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
