Joel Richardson Pennington

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Joel passed away May 3, 2013, at the age of 92. She loved her family, friends and community and loved life. A lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, she and her husband enjoyed dancing, music and travel. They took many road trips with their children throughout the United States and enjoyed their travels and cruises to Mexico, South America and other countries. There are fond memories of times at their beach houses in Mississippi and Florida. Her positive attitude and caring heart will forever be remembered by her family. She is preceded in death by her husband Sidney Pennington and her parents Joel Gilmer Richardson and Mildred Buqois. She is survived by her son, Sidney Ray Pennington Jr. and his wife Melinda Avis Pennington; her daughter Laura Ellen Pennington Beck; her grandsons Jeff and Kevin Pennington; two great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her brother, Jack Richardson of Melbourne Beach, Florida, and sisters; Mildred Richardson of Melbourne Beach, Florida, and Norma Green of Pensacola, Florida. The family would like to thank Liz Scallan for her compassion and loving heart. We also wish to thank the staff of "A First Name Basis" and the Baton Rouge General Hospital for the care and kindness they provided to our mother. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home 9595 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 from 10:00am to 12:00pm with services to follow at 12:00pm. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park
