Jesse Gordon Campbell passed away Friday, November 21, 2014 at the age of 95, following a brief illness. He was born on September 9, 1919 in Covington, TN., and was a resident of Baton Rouge for over 60 years. He joined the United States Navy on January 13, 1944, served during WWII, and was honorably discharged on July 15, 1954. Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by his parents, John Gordon Campbell and Katie Erma Rose; sisters, Margaret Mercer and Elizabeth Pinkerton; brothers, Joe Campbell and James Campbell, and daughter-in-law, Karen A. Campbell. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nettie Louise Campbell; son, Richard Allen Campbell, Sr. of Hammond; daughters, Sarah E. Marshall and husband, Brad, and Myrtle Anne Penny and husband, Daryl of Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Richard A. Campbell, Jr. (Krystal) of Hammond, Christopher Marshall of Baton Rouge, Rebekah Penny Duvic (David) of Beijing, China, Kristyn Penny Mallet (Michael) of Swansboro, North Carolina, and Rachel, Gabriela, and Mariana Penny of Baton Rouge; great grandchildren, Madison and James Duvic, Makayla and Benjamin Mallet, and Liam Penny; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Campbell was a graduate and proud alumnus of Texas A&M University, retired from Delta Southern as a Mechanical Engineer, and member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Monday, November 24, 2014 from 10AM until funeral service at 2PM. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Richard Murphy Hospice House, 1109 South Chestnut St. Hammond, La. 70403, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , or The Salvation Army.
