Jimmy passed away at his home on Sunday morning Feb. 19, 2012. A resident and native of Baton Rouge, he went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was 70 and retired from Ethyl Corp. and the City of Baton Rouge. He was a 1960 graduate of Istrouma High School and a four-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, Construction Battalion (CB-Seabees) serving three tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a loving husband and a devoted friend to many. He loved to pass a good time and always had friends and family over on weekends for backyard cook-outs. He was an avid LSU and Saints football fan and was hardly ever seen without his logo sports caps and t-shirts. He enjoyed traveling and especially visiting the New Orleans French Quarter. He will be forever missed by his family and a host of many loving friends. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting continues at the funeral home on Thursday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. until religious services at noon, conducted by the Rev. Paul Pearson. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Varnado Owens; mother, Wilda Givens Owens; brothers, Gary and wife Judy, and Ronnie Owens; sister, Sue LeBlan; stepchildren, Stanton Perry, Marshall Grayce Perkins and Lane Roshala; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Marley and Easton Roshala; numerous nieces and nephews, and many close friends and especially by his "Bestest Bud" Jody. Preceded in death by his Father, Marvin H. Owens. Pallbearers will be Brad and Jonathan Owens, Lane Roshala, Tommy Efferson, Carroll "Rabbit" Millsap, Lawrence "Moon" Darsam and Winston Vass.
