Gloria Denham Renfroe, age 88, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on January 9, 2024, of natural causes. She is predeceased by the love of her life, Morton “Mort” Cleveland Renfroe, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage and 3 children, LaVelle Renfroe Sutherland, Guy Renfroe, and Dwayne Renfroe.
Gloria and Mort were married in 1953, just after Mort enlisted in the Airforce. The newlyweds spent time during their enlistment on several Airforce bases in Texas. Upon completion of military service, they returned home to Baker, Louisiana, where they began to build a small home which grew over time into a sprawling homestead.
Through the challenges of life, Mort and Gloria learned to lean on each other, and in the end, are a true testament to the commitment of love and holy matrimony. Gloria cared for Mort in the family home, without leaving his side, during a prolonged illness until his passing in 2015. She remained in that home until 2016, when it was lost to a flood. At that time, Gloria moved to Texas so her son Dwayne and his family could help with her care. Her years in Texas were tough for her, having left the home she and Mort had built and that she loved so dearly. But she clung to her faith and often spoke with pride of her numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren that knew her as Gammy.
Gloria was a lover of animals, an avid gardener and a sincere believer in her Lord and Savior. Those that knew her are confident that she’s in heaven right now, looking for strays to adopt, planting flowers in every inch of soil, and finding new projects for Mort. Her suffering has ended, and her sorrow has turned to joy.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, January 20th from 12pm to 2pm, with funeral services following at Greenoaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70815. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Capital Area Animal Welfare Society at www.CAAWS.Org.
