Gene Patrick Hebert, Sr. passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the age of 78. Gene was an avid car fanatic, having a corvette business in the early 1980s called “Classic Corvettes” and a lifelong welding career as a pipefitter with Local Union 198. When he wasn’t welding something, he was fixing up an old car or finding parts across the country. Gene was a wonderful husband and father. He married his sweetheart, Donna, in 1965 when she was just 17 and he 21. He was in the USMC from 1963 to 1969. Gene was a member of the Central Police Department from 2010 to 2018. He loved to drive his cars, travel with his family and he loved his Boston Terrier, Montana. He was a member of St Alphonsus Catholic Church since 1975 and appreciated the recent spiritual guidance and companionship over the years from Fr. Michael Moroney. Gene would do anything for anybody and always had a joke to tell. It never failed, he and his family could be far away out of state on vacation and he would still run into someone he knew. When his kids were growing up, he was on the phone so much with friends or finding car parts, they had to get another phone line just so they could use the phone! Gene also founded the “Little Bear Hunting Club” in 1975 and has 25 members that enjoy getting together every hunting season in St. Francisville. Gene is survived by his “lovely bride”, Donna De Mars Hebert, as he referred to her; son, Gene Patrick Hebert, Jr. (Kelly); daughter, Helaine Hebert Zito (Travis); grandchildren, Collin Hebert, Katherine Hebert, Sophia Zito, and Garrett Zito; and siblings, Barbara Blanchard, Brenda Caballero, Gail Underhill, Ricky Hebert and Kenny Hebert. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Maude Hebert; and brother, CJ Hebert. Visitation for Gene will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022, from 9:00AM to 10:00AM at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation will resume Saturday, March 26, 2022, from 10:30AM to 12:00PM at St. Alphonsus Ligouri Catholic Church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Rd., Greenwell Springs, LA, with a funeral Mass immediately following at 12 noon. The family would like to thank friends and family for the outpouring of love and support they have received over the past few days. They would also like to thank EBR EMS and the Central Fire Department for their valiant efforts during a very difficult time. Family and friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.greenoaksfuneral.com
