Elizabeth "Betty" Tulley

Elizabeth "Betty" Randolph Tulley was united with her Lord on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, following a lengthy battle with COPD. A kind and gentle woman, she will greatly missed by her friends and family. She was 86, born April 17, 1923, the daughter of Elizabeth and Samuel Tillett. Betty loved to play golf, bridge and dance. She was a graduate of the Curtis Wright Cadet program in aeronautical engineering from the University of Minnesota, and worked at Curtiss-Wright in Columbus, Ohio, during World War II, where she met her lifelong love and husband, Fredrick Tulley. They eventually relocated to Baton Rouge with their three children, Fred, Richard and Mary Beth. Betty worked as a buyer for I.H. Rubenstein and Son's department store and as a volunteer at Woman's Hospital. She was also a member of PEO and Kappa Gamma Delta sorority and served as an elder at Broadmoor Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 35 years, and her sister, Ann Baker. She is survived by two brothers and their wives, Robert and Jean Tillett, of Louisville, Ky., and Sam and Ruth Anne Tillett, of Mesa, Ariz.; three children, Fredrick R. Tulley and Richard Tulley, both of Baton Rouge, and Mary Beth Martin, of Georgetown, Texas; and their spouses, Jeanne Tulley, Barbara Tulley and Michael Martin; six grandchildren, Fredrick Tulley, of Atlanta, Katherine Tulley, of Baton Rouge, John Tulley and sister Beth Tulley, both of Baton Rouge, Michelle Vaught and her spouse, Brian Vaught, of Athens, Ga., and Michael Martin, of Nashville, Tenn.; as well as four great-grandchildren, Mason, Brandt, Presley and Kennedy Vaught. The family wishes to thank St. James Health and Wellness Center and Hospice of Baton Rouge for the loving care she received from them. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Foundation Fighting Blindness, Broadmoor Presbyterian Church or your favorite charity.
