Elaine G. Robinson (nee Gruenemeier) died at home in Baton Rouge following a long and courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, May 15, 2014, aged 77 years. She was preceded in death by Gene C. Robinson, her husband of 53 years, her brother John Burke Gruenemeier, and her parents John and Celestine Gruenemeier. She is survived by her son Robert Robinson of London, England, her daughter and son-in-law Renee and Patrick Tullier of Baton Rouge, her grandchildren Michael (and his wife Julie), Brian, Devin and Phillip Tullier, her brother-in-law Dr. T.R. Robinson and his wife Dina of Gainesville, Georgia, and her first cousins Charlene Beurlot of Alexandria (married to Dr. Rayland Beurlot) and James Guillory (married to Debbie) of Grand Prairie, Louisiana. Elaine was born on October 20, 1936 in El Campo, Texas. She grew up in Baton Rouge where she attended Istrouma High School and LSU, majoring in elementary education. While at LSU, Elaine was a member of Mortar Board, Alpha Delta Pi sorority and the Homecoming Court, and she remained an avid fan of LSU sports all of her life. She taught at Belfair Elementary School in Baton Rouge until her children were born but she remained active as a substitute teacher until age 75. Elaine was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish and was the first woman to serve as President of the Parish Council. She was a long-standing member of the Bayou Reviewers Book Club and a keen bridge player to the end of her life. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Monday, May 19, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment will follow on the grounds of Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Services of Baton Rouge, M.D. Anderson, Hospice of Baton Rouge or a charity of your choice.
