Dennis “Speedy’ Allen, a native and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the age of 79. He is a graduate of Catholic High and the University of Southern Mississippi. He earned a degree in education and taught 11th grade American History for many years. During college he was drafted into the Army and served with the First Cavalry in Vietnam. He earned the rank of Sergeant and worked as a crypto tech. While serving, he was awarded many medals. After serving, he came home and started his teaching career. He also became an instructor and taught SCUBA Diving for many years. His hobbies included digging up civil war relics and old bottles. He loved hunting and fishing and pretty much anything outdoors. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Connie Palmer Allen of Baton Rouge; his sons: Brad Allen and wife Kristen Allen of Walker, and Brandon Allen of Baton Rouge; grandchildren: Dawclyn Badeau and Grant Allen of Baton Rouge; brothers: Tommy Allen, Fred Allen, and Father David Allen, all of Baton Rouge; sister, Madlyn Hicks of Baton Rouge; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Spedale Allen; his father, Eugene Fridge Allen; and a brother, Ronnie Allen. Visitation will be at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave., on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, from 9 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10am, celebrated by his brother, Father David Allen. Burial will be at Louisiana National Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Brad Allen, Brandon Allen, Fred Allen, Matt Hicks, David Collier, Mark Collier. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Allen and Mark Hicks. In Lieu of Flowers we ask to donate to Wounded Warriors Foundation and Alzheimer’s Association.
