David was born on March 26, 1956 in Baton Rouge to Margaret Ann and Joseph Huckabee. He graduated from Glen Oaks High School in 1974, where he played Center for the Panthers football team. After high school he attended Southeastern and was hired on as an electrician at Exxon in 1978, where he would go on to work as an electrical specialist in the engineering department until his retirement in 2013. On December 13, 1980, David married the love of his life, Cindy Smith. Shortly after, they built their home in Zachary where they would live until his passing. His retirement was filled with travel, mission trips, and adventures with his family and grandchildren.
David leaves behind a legacy in the family he built with Cindy: two sons, Jonathan Huckabee and his wife Haley; Joshua Huckabee; two grandchildren, Reed Crawford Huckabee and Ellie Margaret Huckabee. David also leaves behind a sister, Marjo Easley (Jim); sisters-in-law, Kathy Staire (Peter), Laurie Burns (Steve); brothers-in-law, Randy Smith, and Fred Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the church family at First Baptist Church Zachary, and especially to Pastor Eddie Wren, Dr. Wayne Barnes, and Debbi Mashaw.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 8 at First Baptist Church Zachary from 6:00-8:00pm and resume Friday, June 9 from 9:00-10:00am with funeral service to begin at 10:00am, also at FBCZ. Pallbearers will be Brent Burns, Kerry Burns, Mason Liner, Randy Smith, Peter Staire and Zachary Staire. Honorary pallbearers are Dick LaFleur and Shawn Liner. Special thanks to Brandi LaFleur Breust and Randy Smith for all the care they provided.
