Curt Andrew Auzenne

Curt was born on August 14, 1958 in Opelousas, Louisiana to Jacques Warren Auzenne and Marie Irmine Auzenne. He attended Opelousas Catholic High. He graduated from University of Southwest Louisiana with a Master’s Degree in Microbiology. He worked for the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality for 31 years. He delighted in creating community puppet shows for the Houston Zoo and later the DEQ recycling department. Curt was a long time volunteer for ChemFriends, Envirothon, The Blood Center blood drives, and Camp Challenge, a camp for children with cancer and their siblings.

Curt will be remembered for his love of sharing stories, especially about his upbringing in the tight-knit community of Opelousas, Louisiana. He enjoyed exploring and sharing his family history through genealogy. He expressed his appreciation of nature through his gardening and hiking. He was a lifelong Astros fan and especially enjoyed watching their World Series win in 2017. He was an evangelist of Cajun food and his Pain Perdue was legendary. Above all, Curt was funny as hell and was renowned for his “dad jokes” – none who knew him will forget his infectious laughter.

Curt was a selfless and giving family man. He was a devoted caregiver to his parents, especially in their final years. No day was complete without checking in with one of his brothers. He was a dedicated husband and father, and he was the best and most beloved PawPaw to his grandchildren and cherished them dearly.

Curt was preceded in death by his parents, Jacques Warren Auzenne, and Marie Irmine Auzenne; brother Dana Charles Auzenne. Survivors include his wife, Katherine Gividen of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Melissa Ceyrolles (Ronald) of Odessa, Florida and Rachel Bordelon (James) of Baton Rouge; and one son, Dustin Schafer (Jennifer) of St. Petersburg, Florida. Grandchildren Amara Bordelon; Elijah Bordelon; Ronald Ceyrolles III; Mila Ceyrolles; and Montgomery Schafer. Brothers Duane Jacques Auzenne (Marjorie) of Houma, and Edmond Joseph Leonard Auzenne of Houston, Texas. Nieces Kara Irmine Auzenne of Stuart, Florida; Amiee Firestine of Chiefland, Florida; and Nicole Eleno of New York, New York. Nephews Kyle Alexander Auzenne of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Robert Firestine of Jensen Beach, Florida.
