Amos Percy Smith

"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine", Isaiah 43:1. A godly, devoted and loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and great, great grandfather, Amos Percy Smith, a native of Franklin County, Mississippi and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 6, 2013 at the age of 97. Amos was a 32nd degree Mason with 69 years of dedicated and active service with Istrouma Lodge #414, Northeast Lodge #435, where he was a charter member and Trinity Union Lodge #372, where he was also a charter member. He served as Worshipful Master of Northeast Lodge #435 on two occasions; in 1966 and 1982. He was also a member of Myrtle Celeste #231, Order of Eastern Star and of Acacia Shrine. Amos retired from Exxon Research Laboratories in 1977 with 42 years of service. He was a member of Jefferson Baptist Church and also the Exxon Istrouma Annuitant Club. Survived by four children; Sharon Smith Fairchild and husband B. L., Judy Smith Connor and Husband Tommy, Thad Smith and wife Valerie and Amos Smith Jr. and wife Donna; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Ruben B. Smith and Maggie Magee Smith; by Margie H. Smith, the mother of his four children; by his four brothers, Edgar Green Smith, Roy Lee Smith, Lewis W. Smith and Isaac "Ike" Smith and six sisters; Bertha Smith Dixon, Anna Smith Sutton, Amy Smith Nettles, Ruby Smith Porter Sims Soulier, Pauline Smith Carpenter and Eva Smith Monk. Pallbearers will be son, Amos Smith Jr. and five grandsons, Bret Fairchild, Ken Sharp, Chad Smith, Scott Smith and Thomas Connor. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Tuesday, December, 10, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Tommy French will officiate the services. Interment at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
