Alvin Charles “Al” Moreau, Jr., 80, of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully Friday night, September 29, surrounded by his cherished wife of 53 years, Margarette Ackal Moreau, their children, and his siblings. Visitation services will be held Tuesday, October 3 from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Rev. Randy Cuevas will officiate. A private burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery in Brusly. The personable Moreau was a weightlifting pioneer and was regularly featured on the local television show Alvin Roy’s Future Champions, because of his expert weightlifting form. Al also understood the benefits that weight training afforded athletes, long before it was widely accepted. Weight training helped Al earn a scholarship to play football at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches and was one of his lifelong passions. Even well into his 60's, he experimented with ways to maximize his athletic potential. Neighbors often watched as he ran wind sprints in his yard while pulling a weighted sled. Real joy for Al though came from encouraging and helping others and by telling them stories to bring a smile to their faces. Moreau is survived by his wife Margarette, the love of his life; one daughter, Eugenie Michelle Moreau, Atlanta, GA; three sons, Al Moreau, III and his wife Charlotte; Matthew Moreau and his wife Holly; Michael Moreau and his wife Jessica Alonzo Moreau; nine grandchildren, Madison Nicole Moreau, Ava Grace Moreau, Londyn Elise Moreau, Aidan Patrick Moreau, Lohan Steele Howard, Ainsley Michelle Moreau, Luke Ackal Moreau, Michael Manuel Moreau, Ethan Charles Moreau; five sisters, Tonsie Moreau Beach; Rebecca Moreau Newsham and her husband Ned; Margo Moreau McCarthy and her husband Mac; Jeanne Moreau Caldarera and her husband Steve; Michele Moreau Rathbone; two brothers, Doug Moreau and his wife Elaine; Andre Moreau. He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Lilla May Moreau of Baton Rouge; paternal grandparents Charles Aurelien and Estelle Michot Moreau of Marksville; maternal grandparents Pierre Henri Jean Baptiste and Sophie Dupont Heck of Port Allen; two sisters, Colette Moreau Lottinger and her husband Allen Lottinger; Suzanne Marie Moreau; two brothers-in-law, David Patrick Beach and Dr. Richard Faures Rathbone. Al founded Moreau Physical Therapy in 1977 after earning his BS in Physical Therapy from the University of Alabama, Birmingham Medical Center, and BS from Northwestern State. At NSU, he earned All-Gulf States Conference honors in football. He was also a proud member of the United States Marine Corps. In 2008, he was inducted into the University's Hall of Distinction, the Long Purple Line. Al was a selfless gentleman with a quick wit and beaming smile. He loved his family, friends and the patients and employees he worked with over the years, helping them live their best lives.
