Preceding Bob in death are his father, Franklin Henry Meyer, and his step-mother, Blanche Broome Meyer. Survivors are his wife, Deborah Meyer of Bastrop; son, Brent Meyer and his wife Jennifer and their daughter Kylie of La Jolla, California; daughter, Kelley Meyer of Austin, daughter, Amy Persyn and her husband Andrew of College Station, Texas; sister, Betty Williams of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; brother, Richard Meyer of Irving, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.
Bob attended high school in El Reno, OK, and received his bachelor degree in accounting from Oklahoma State University. He served as US Army Sergeant in the National Guard for 6 years, worked in recruitment for his college fraternity, Sears, manager of beach property on South Padre, and as a private investigator before settling as a Financial Manager at the Veteran’s Administration for 30 years. His marriage to Debbie took place on October 20, 1979.
Retirement was a joy for Bob, who spent his time with family, gardening, and fishing. He loved nothing more than to relax on his back patio with the daily newspaper and a Crossword Puzzle, watching the Colorado River and all the wildlife that passes through. The deer, a cougar, a family of feral hogs, birds, kayakers, and the occasional fisherman did not escape his notice! Shortly before he was diagnosed with lung cancer, he became involved with CASA of Bastrop, doing what he did best: helping other people.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Friends of the Bastrop County Animal Shelter or to CASA of Bastrop, Inc. in memory of Bob Meyer.
Memorial services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Bastrop, Texas, on July 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow at the church fellowship hall.
Bob will be missed by family, friends and the community.
