Jean lived most of her life in the Pleasant Grove Community. As a young lady she was employed at Eagles 5 & 10 on the square in up town Martinsville. She also worked at the Martinsville DuPont Plant. Following a time of being a homemaker and “stay at home mom” to her children, she began a long and productive career as a floral designer at Bryant-Everett Florist, from which she retired after 30 years of designing. You could always tell one of Jean’s arrangements, because there would be a butterfly or a bird in the design. Following retirement, she was a passionate grandmother to her grandson, Scott. He was her world from his birth until her death. Scott would receive the very last hug that Jean would give, just before she entered her heavenly rest.
For many years, Jean was a faithful & dedicated member of the Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church. There she was involved in all aspects of church life. She was a member of the Sunday school, the Esther Circle ladies group. Involved in the Fall Festival each year where she and her husband, helped with the making of stew & apple butter. Participated in the Crismon Classes taught by Carolyn Hudson & Paige Rodgers. She was a very creative lady, in her floral designs, crismons, and crocheting many afghans and prayer shawls. Jean was known for her compassion toward others in her giving and sending cards for all occasions. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, decorating everything in sight.
Jean loved her gardening; vegetables & flowers. She & Roy worked hard every summer to raise the perfect garden. They worked together for many hours in the kitchen to can, freeze and put up their garden bounty. For which they were happy to share with family, neighbors, and friends. Many jars of green beans, pickles, pear preserves, beets and others, still line the shelves in her basement.
In 2020 she and Roy began attending the Landmark Baptist Church in Collinsville, where her son-in-law is pastor. On Sunday, November 8th, 2020, Jean and Roy were baptized, with many others, into the church. They both were as involved as their health would allow them to be.
