James Washington Taylor, 89, of 325 Providence Lane, Martinsville, died Tuesday, December 27, 2011 Roanoke Memorial Hospital. James was born in Franklin County on February 22, 1922 to the late John Taylor and Lula Morris Taylor. He was retired after more than thirteen years with Fieldcrest Mills where he worked in maintenance. He was a member of Antioch Christian Church and sung in the Men’s Choirs and served as an usher.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters, Nanny Lipscomb, Margaret Green, Gertrude Martin and Beulah Hylton, five brothers, Herbert, Lloyd, Joe, Seaboyd and Harry Taylor.
Surviving are his wife of forty three years, E. Mae Martin Taylor of the home, one daughter and son-in-law, Michalle L. and Jeffrey M. Manns of Martinsville, three sisters, Ruby Hagwood of Bassett, Sally Washington of Washington, DC and Vickie Taylor of Collinsville, two brothers, Mac Taylor of Mt Vernon, NY and Randolph Taylor of Jamaica, NY, two grandchildren, Joshua O’Neal Taylor and Jae’da Camille Manns and several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Antioch Christian Church with Pastor Junior Wimbush and Rev. Hughes Douglas Scales officiating, interment will follow in Antioch Christian Church Cemetery in Spencer. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at Antioch Christian Church in Spencer and other times at the home on Providence Lane, Martinsville.
