Carrie Elizabeth Hagwood Penn, age 88, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at her home. She was born on April 9, 1933 in Patrick County, Virginia to the late Charlie Hylton Hagwood and Martha Ruth Reynolds Hagwood. She had been employed by Bassett Furniture as a sander for over 40 years. She was a member of St. Paul Holiness Church. She loved her Pastor and church family and was a faithful member until her health declined. She was a humble person that was full of laughter and would always greet you with a smile. She was a loving caregiver that loved children. She loved to cook and was well known for her homemade biscuits. She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her family was her heart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, James Oscar (Wimpy) Penn; sisters, Bessie Reynolds, Annie Hairston, Shirley Hagwood, Eva Hairston, Vera Hagwood and brothers, Thomas Hagwood and Richard Hagwood.
Carrie is survived by her daughter, Joan Penn Dillard (Ronnie Sr.),two grandsons, Ronnie Dillard, Jr. (Margo) and Jamel Dillard, two great grandchildren, Mariah Dillard and Carter Dillard and a godson, Steven Hagwood and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Hwy, Bassett, Virginia. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens.
