Born in Franklin County, September 14, 1941, he was a son of the late John Forbes and Rosetta Hammock Forbes.
Billy attended Franklin County High School, and retired from MGM Transportation after many years of service. He was very active as a coach and an umpire in youth baseball, football, and basketball in the area, and he was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn Smith Forbes, three sons, Billy Lee Forbes Jr. and his wife Renae of Dong Guan, China, John Wayne Forbes and Jason Russell Forbes, both of Bassett; a sister, Nannie Dillon Walker of Union Hall; two brothers, Gordon Wayne Forbes and his wife Shirley, and Michael John Forbes and his wife Kathy, all of Bassett; a brother-in-law, John Wayne Smith of Albuquerque, NM; three grandchildren, Jason Russell (Rusty) Forbes Jr., Amber Haley Forbes and Gage Nicholas Forbes; three step-grandchildren, Logan Ray Mitchem, Tyler John Rigney, and Tara Allison Kilby; four nieces and four nephews.
The memorial service will be held at 7 P.M. on Monday, March 28, 2011, at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Bassett with Pastor Ben Sturgiss officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 P.M. prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
