Bernie Ray Rutherford

Bernie was born February 1, 1955, in Peoria, the son of Eunice I. Rutherford and James M. Rutherford. He married Mimi Gonzales, on February 18, 1972, in Peoria.

Surviving are his wife, Mimi; and his children, Maurice (Cori) Rutherford, of Peoria and Mario (Mo) Rutherford, of Peoria. Bernie had two grandsons, Maurice (Amanda) Rutherford Jr. and Chance Rutherford.

He had five granddaughters Mariah Rutherford, Kennedy (Seth) Stephens, Octtavia Rutherford, Ontaria Rutherford and Madiola Rutherford. He also had two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his mother, Eunice Rutherford of Blue Mountain, MS; his siblings, James A. Rutherford of Peoria, IL, Sherie L. Rutherford of Peoria, AZ and Vanessa G. (Nate) Turner of Atlanta, GA; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He also left behind many lifelong friends and Darrell Moore of Peoria, whom he considered a brother.

He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Rutherford, and his brother, Gil D. Rutherford.

Bernie was employed at Asplundh Tree as a Journeyman Tree Trimmer, last working in 1989. Bernie also sold cars for many years at Whalen’s Auto Center in Peoria, IL.

He was an avid car enthusiast. He loved talking about cars and watching Western movies. Bernie never knew a stranger.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cremation services will be accorded. Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
