William Everett Garland, age 83, of Collierville, Tennessee a loving husband of 65 years, father, son, and uncle passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2020 due to Alzheimer's complications. William was born December 22, 1936. William, was known to many as "Bill" and some knew him as "Eddie."
Eddie learned to be a butcher at the age of 18. He worked at most local grocery stores including; Dixie Mart, Montesi, Pic Pac, Big Star(s) and Highpoint. After years of cutting meat, Eddie enjoyed a career in meat sales and retired from John Morrell.
As a young man, Eddie enjoyed riding dirt bikes, lifting weights and square dancing. After a serious injury, he took up woodworking and spent much of his time sipping coffee and swapping tales with his buddies.
Eddie was quick to offer a helping hand to anyone in need and kept candy in is shirt pocket just to bring a smile, even to strangers.
His love of music stayed with him to the very end where he sang his way through his final days.
Eddie is survived by his wife of 65 years, H. Marie Garland, their children Keith and Kim Garland, granddaughter, Taylor Coop-Daniel (Jordan), and his sister, June Webber.
In lieu of flowers gifts in memory of Eddie may be offered to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org)
A visitation will be held at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, August 4th from 10:30am to 12:00pm.
