Roger was born in Jackson, Tennessee on August 25, 1943, one of six children born to the late Clifford Leroy & Flora Anna Mitchell. He attended Southside High School in Bemis, Tennessee and left to join the U.S. Air Force serving from 1959 until 1963. He met his wife to be, Bonnie, at the skating rink in Bemis and they married in 1965.
His working career started at CBIN (Chicago Bridge and Iron Nuclear) where he spent 23 years until they closed their doors. He finished his career at FedEx retiring after 25 years as a master maintenance technician.
Mr. Mitchell was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He loved, avidly, hunting and fishing and the Sunday Nascar race. He and his fishing buddies spent many days on the local waters of Sardis Lake. He was a proud member of Legacy Outfitters, a group who would take service members fishing and hunting and also cook meals for them. Everyone who knows Roger also knows he loved his cats!
Along with his parents and wife Bonnie, Roger was also preceded in death by his brothers Roy Neal and Danny, and sister Rosa Warren.
He is survived by his son Roger "Dale" (Anita) Mitchell, Jr. of Somerville, Tennessee; granddaughter Kathryn Dale Mitchell; sister Peggy (Robert) Benson; brother Joe (Cynthia) Mitchell; and longtime family friend Al Green.
Family and friends will gather on Monday, October 21 from one o'clock until funeral services begin at two o'clock all at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, Tennessee 38133. Reception will follow the burial services in South Hall and last until five o'clock at the funeral home as well.
Any memorials in Roger's honor should be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Bartlett Hills Baptist Church.
