Maria Torres Macaraeg, M.D., of Lakeland TN passed away on November 27, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents Emiliano and Felicitas Torres and an older brother. She is survived by her husband of 57 years Dr. Greg Macaraeg, four children, Vincent, Teresa Macaraeg-Griffith DDS, Celia Forsythe, Diane Quin; eight grandchildren, Robert Litten, Robin Litten, Elsa Maria Forsythe, Camille Forsythe, Gavin Macaraeg, Oscar Quin, Cecil Quin and Gus Quin; siblings from the Philippines, Jose Torres, Corazon Solis and Florence Torres-Arquizo as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Maria was born and grew up in Phillips, Del Monte, Bukidnon. She graduated from the Manila Central University College of Medicine in 1962. She took up residency in General Pediatrics at the St. Louis City Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri after which she practiced General Pediatrics at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro, IL until she retired in 1998. She was a former member of the Jackson County Medical Society in Illinois, and a member of the American Medical Association.
She and her husband loved to travel domestically and abroad. She loved gardening; her favorite hobby was archiving pictures of her grandchildren. After 38 years of living in Illinois she and her husband relocated to Memphis TN in 2011. In Memphis she did some minor voluntary church ministries as it related to the Filipino First Sunday of the month mass at the Nativity Catholic Church in Bartlett, TN where she was a parishioner since 2011 until the time of her death. She always looked forward to the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Wednesday Novena to pray and socialize with regular attendees whose friendship she valued.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 30, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Road, Bartlett TN 38133. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday December 1, at 11:00 a.m. at the Nativity Catholic Church in Bartlett, TN.
