He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Catherine Hurt, his sister Ethel Hurt Newsum and his brother, Charles N. Hurt.
He is survived by his loving wife Lynnette Hurt; two children, Karen Bunker (Tommy), Rob Hurt (Kim), and 4 step Children, Chuck Palmer ( Sally), Ralph Palmer (Marsha), Laura Griffin (Scott), David Palmer (Sheri). six grandchildren, nine step grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, five step great grandchildren.
John loved the Lord with all his heart and lived his life accordingly. He was a faithful member of Davis St. Church of Christ in New Madrid, MO. John was always looking for an opportunity to teach others the Gospel. He was a wonderful Christian example to all of his family, friends and anyone he came in contact with. Ecc 12:13-14.
John was also a community volunteer for a few organizations, the Boy Scouts and the Optimist Club. He graduated from Treadwell High School in 1956. He was an Eagle Scout. John attended college at the University of TN, in Knoxville.
John proudly served our country in the United States Air Force. He began selling Insurance with State Life but then spent 35 years as a Sales rep for Armstrong Relocation in Memphis.
The visitation for John will be held Friday, December 10 from 12:30-2:00pm at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133. The funeral service will be held Celebrating His Life following the visitation. The graveside service will follow the service. All services will be held at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens.
