James “Jamie” Lewis Parker, 72, of Eads, TN passed away on June 4, 2023 with his wife, daughter and son-in-law by his side. He was born on December 18, 1950 in Marks, Mississippi to Louis and Flossie Parker. He was a Sargent in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served our country in Germany as a Communications Chief. He married Barbara, his soul mate, in 1970 and they spent 52 years devoted to each other. Jamie retired from Chris Woods Construction Company where he worked as a Supervisor. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t figure out how to build.
Jamie was an avid fisherman who never met a fish he didn’t like to catch. Even during his many hospital stays, he always had to get the fishing report from his buddies. In turn, his buddies called him every day to see who was catching what and where. He loved fishing about as much as he loved his family. He told his daughter while she was pregnant that she better not deliver if the fish were biting. Needless to say, he was right by her side to meet his only grandchild on that special day. His granddaughter, Shelby, was his pride and joy. Jamie loved to play Liverpool Rummy with his family and it became a weekend tradition. He loved cooking fish and making hush puppies to share with all the neighbors. Jamie never met a stranger and he would help anyone that was in need. Jamie loved to ride roller coasters with his daughter, Cindy. He loved to travel. His favorite vacation was a cruise with Barbara and friends to Alaska. He would sit on their balcony for hours mesmerized by all the Alaskan wildlife. Jamie loved life in general and he had a wonderful one.
Jamie is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara; a daughter, Cindy James (Chris); a granddaughter, Shelby Johnson (Garrett); a sister, Patricia Jeanes (Ronnie); and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Flossie Parker; a brother, Jerry Parker; and a sister, Joann Weaver.
Jamie’s Celebration of Life will be on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Memphis Funeral Home located at 3700 N. Germantown Pkwy. Visitation is from 1pm-2pm with services beginning at 2pm.
