Horace Alfred Harris, age 91; passed away December 30, 2018 in Chattanooga,Tn. After a brief illness. He was born April 2, 1927 in Lambert, MS. to Horace and Sybil (Westbrook) Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers Joseph and Michael. He was also predeceased by one grandchild, Michael Muse and one great grandchild, Bryce Griffeth.
He attended the only school in Lambert from which he graduated. After high school he enlisted with the U.S. Marines and proudly served his country in the Korean War. He seldom talked about his time in Korea, so it was with somber pride to recently learn from reviewing his discharge papers that he was awarded the Korean Service Medal and a recipient of the Purple Heart. Upon discharge from service, he returned to Lambert and was married to Anita Faye Hill. They remained married until her death for more than 50 years. Horace and Faye lived in married housing on the campus of Ole Miss while Horace attended college on the GI Bill. These were good memories for them both and they became life long fans of Archie Manning and his boys.Upon graduating college, they moved to Memphis,Tn where Horace began a long career in banking and raising a family. They had four children, Virginia (Jenny) Muse(Dennis), Beverly Cianciola (Frank) Mary Jane Hatley (Jimmy) and Phillip L. Harris. Nine grandchildren Leigh Muse Griffeth, Brad Muse, Michael Muse, Austin Muse, Ben Hatley ,Andrew Hatley ,Alex Cianciola, and Hunter and P.J. Harris. They also had eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM followed by service at 10:00AM , Monday January 7, 2018, at Memphis Funeral Home , 3700 N. Germantown Road In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s or a charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank friends and family for their support and kind words.
