Mr. Harry “Hank” F. Hess Jr.80, of Bartlett Tennessee passed away on November 29, 2022. He was born on March 20, 1942 in Rhinebeck, New York to Harry F. Hess Sr. and Johanna Hauslieter Hess. Mr. Hess graduated from New York University with a degree in Chemistry. He met his beloved wife Concetta “Connie” Beghin, who also studied Chemistry at NYU. Together they worked in the chemical industry until retirement.
Mr. Hess served as the Lakeland Lions Club Treasurer for many years. He partnered with Kroger for pecan sales in the local stores. This resulted in raising more money than any other club in West Tennessee. The money raised was used for the prevention of blindness as well as assisting those who are blind. In addition the Lions Club built parks and supported the local schools.
Mr. and Mrs Hess loved traveling the world together and experimenting with cooking cuisines from around the world. He cooked dinners for friends, supported the Poor Clare Nuns of Memphis and attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was known by family and friends to be a kind and generous man.
Mr. Hess was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Connie. He leaves behind his cousin Edith Garner and his four cats as well as numerous friends.
A gathering of family and friends for Harry will be held Thursday, December 8, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133, followed by a committal service at 2:45 PM.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Garner requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis Tennessee 38105.
