Alfonso Perea, an admired public servant and unforgettable human being, passed away on April 21, 2024, in Arlington, Tennessee, at the age of 36. Born on February 21, 1988, Alfonso dedicated his life to serving his family, community, and country in the United States Army and Memphis Police Department.
Sergeant Alfonso Perea served as an active duty soldier and sniper in the United States Army from 2006 until 2009, the Mississippi National Guard from 2010 until 2020, and the Memphis Police Department from 2011 until his passing in 2024. He was a true silent professional. Alfonso completed multiple deployments in the Middle East and was the recipient of several awards, including the Army Commendation Medal and MPD’s Lifesaving Award. Known for his generosity, kindness and sense of humor, Alfonso worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life for his community, earning the respect and admiration of all who knew him.
Alfonso was profoundly loyal to his family. He is survived by his loving mother, Julia Perea Geheter; his father, Jesus Perea, Sr.; his brother, Jesus I. Perea, Jr.; his sister, Julia Perea (Javier Garcia); and his daughter, Serena Marie Perea. Alfonso was predeceased by his sister, Guadalupe Perea.
Alfonso's life was a testament to the impact one individual can have on the lives of many. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know him. A Mass of Christian Burial and Military Burial will be held at a later date. The family appreciates the outpouring of support during this difficult time.
